Reduce collisions with pedestrians and bicyclists
Transit bus operators must deal with an array of factors competing for their attention in urban driving conditions. Pedestrians and bicyclists in the path of a bus represent a significant liability making response time critical. To help drivers avoid or reduce the severity of a collision, the Pedestrian Avoidance Safety System (PASS) can automatically decelerate a vehicle when an imminent pedestrian collision is detected.
PASS utilizes a complex set of proprietary sensor fusion algorithms to integrate the latest pedestrian sensor technologies with automated powertrain and braking system control. Monitoring collision warning sensors and vehicle dynamics, PASS determines — within a fraction of a second — if automatic action is required. PASS can be configured across a wide range of vehicle platforms, route characteristics, and transit agency preferences.
